Decatur County Schools seeks a dedicated, experienced individual to join our team as the Head High School Football Coach and Teacher. This position will lead and manage all aspects of the football program while also fulfilling teaching duties within the school.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ā— Bachelor’s Degree

ā— Hold or eligible to hold a professional certificate issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission in any 9-12 Grade Content

ā— Passing GACE requirements

ā— Must be Professionally qualified under the Every Student Succeeds Act.

ā— Knowledge of curriculum standards and instructional methods

ā— Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

ā— Classroom management skills

ā— Excellent organizational skills

ā— Patience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for working with children

ā— Previous teaching & offensive coaching experience is a plus but not required for entry-level positions

ā— Ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to achieve their full potential

ā— Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment

ESSENTIAL DUTIESĀ 

1. Football Coaching:Ā 
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive program fostering skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Plan and conduct regular practices, drills, and conditioning sessions to prepare athletes for competition.
  • Supervise assistant coaches and coordinate their roles within the program.Ā 
  • Evaluate player and assistant coach performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Strategize game plans and make in-game adjustments to ensure team success.
  • Ensure compliance with all school, district, and state athletic regulations.
  • Support the mission, vision, and beliefs of the Decatur County School DistrictĀ 
  • Maintain equipment, uniforms, and facilitiesĀ 
  • Conduct preseason meetings with student-athletes and parentsĀ 
  • Promote parent and community engagementĀ 
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders regarding program expectations and updatesĀ 
  • Coordinate team travel and logistical needsĀ 
  • All other duties as assigned by administrationĀ 
2. Teaching:Ā 
  • Deliver engaging and effective instruction for students.
  • Develop and implement curriculum plans that align with state standards.
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment promoting student engagement and success.
  • Assess student learning and provide timely feedback to support growth.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously improve teaching skills and knowledge.
  • All other duties as assigned by administrationĀ 
3. Administrative Duties:Ā 
  • Maintain accurate records of student eligibility, attendance, and other pertinent information.
  • Communicate regularly with student-athletes, parents, community, and stakeholders regarding program expectations and updates.
  • Coordinate team travel, equipment, and other logistical needs for practices and competitions.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of DCBOE student-athletes for the football program
  • Collaborate with school administrators and athletic department staff on matters related to the football program and disciplinary matters.
  • All other duties as assigned by administrationĀ 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ā 

Routine physical activities are associated with a teacher and a coach.. Requires extensive sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, lifting, and repetitive fine motor activities as part of the daily activities. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are essential functions of this position.Ā 

  • Ability to carry 30-50 pounds with assistanceĀ 
  • Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 poundsĀ 
  • Maintain a consistent and reliable presence at work. Regular attendance is crucial for providing stable and effective support throughout the academic year.Ā 
  • Effectively supervise and ensure the safety of students and staff in emergencies.Ā 

The employee must perform each essential function satisfactorily. Employees are expected to attend all required meetings as approved by the supervisor. The employee will adhere to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Code of Ethics for Educators and all Decatur County Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, school system procedures, social media platform procedures, and all other applicable professional performance criteria. Maintenance of criminal history checks is required for all employees.Ā 

SALARY:Ā 

    • Salary based on years of teaching experience and degree levelĀ 
    • Salary based on the Georgia State Teacher Salary Pay ScaleĀ
