As the Head of Program for Football, you will lead and manage the football program at all levels, including middle school, JV, and varsity. This position requires a strong background in football coaching, leadership skills, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field. The Head of Program will oversee all aspects of the football program, including player development, team management, program administration, and the intentional development of the program’s talent pipeline.

According to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), an athletic head coach must either be a certified professional teacher or hold a four-year degree while also being employed in a teaching or administrative role at the school. Supervisor: Director of Athletics

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Assistant Varsity Football Coaches, JV Football Coaching Staff, Middle School Football Coaching Staff

Position Status:  Salaried, exempt, full-time, 12-month position

Hours of Work: TBD based on position. Typical hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend and evening work is required.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.

  • Current active or currently pursuing employment as a Westminster Faculty or Staff Member
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
  • Demonstrated success as a coach
  • Working knowledge of computer and statistical programs
  • Strong writing, organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members
  • Knowledge of GHSA rules and regulations
  • CPR and First Aid Certified – preferred


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Program Development and Management


  • Develops and implements a comprehensive football program for all tiers (Middle School, Junior Varsity, and Varsity) that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to coaches at all program levels to ensure a cohesive coaching staff and program alignment.
  • Plans and conducts effective practices focusing on skill development, strategy, and teamwork for all tiers.
  • Evaluates and selects players for each team through tryouts and ongoing assessments, considering the needs of each tier.
  • Creates a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes all levels of sportsmanship, respect, and personal growth.
  • Fosters strong relationships with student-athletes, parents, and the school community across all tiers.
  • Builds and manages the scheduling of games, practices, tournaments, and other team events for each program tier.
  • Organizes and oversees youth clinics, summer camps, and summer development programs to build and develop the program’s pipeline of talent and engagement.
  • Works closely with the Coordinator of Strength and Conditioning and the Assistant Coordinator of Sports Performance to ensure that football student-athletes are physically fit and conditioned for the sport of football.
  • Engages lower and middle school students and families to promote the sport and provide opportunities for younger students to engage with the sport and the program.
  • Engages and contributes to local youth football organizations to build a network of coaches and promote Westminster football.
  • Manages the program within the parameters of an approved budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Compliance with GHSA Rules and Regulations


  • Ensures compliance with the rules and regulations the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) set forth for all aspects of the football program.
  • Stays current with any changes or updates to GHSA rules and regulations and communicate them to the coaching staff, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation the GHSA requires, including player eligibility, game schedules, and team rosters.
  • Coordinates with the athletic department to ensure timely completion and submission of necessary paperwork and forms.
  • Attends GHSA meetings, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed and maintain compliance.
  • Educates student-athletes, coaches, and parents about GHSA rules and regulations emphasizing fair play, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Support for Student-Athletes


  • Guides and supports student-athletes pursuing football at the collegiate or professional level, including the recruitment process, eligibility, and academic requirements.
  • Collaborating with college coaches, scouts, and youth programs facilitates exposure opportunities.
  • Provides resources for skill development, training, and camps to help athletes showcase their abilities.
  • Maintains relationships with coaches and recruiters to advocate for student-athletes and connect them with opportunities.
  • Works with the Sports and Performance Counselor to support student-athletes’ well-being and ensure a positive program culture.
  • Monitors academic progress and stay informed on NCAA and NAIA recruitment and eligibility regulations


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Professional Development and Coaching Excellence


  • Attends conferences and the annual coaches’ convention along with other members of the coaching staff to stay current with best practices in football coaching.
  • Shares knowledge and insights gained from conferences and conventions with the coaching and support staff to enhance coaching techniques, strategies, and player development.
  • Collaborates with the coaching staff to implement new ideas and approaches into the football program.
  • Actively seeks out and identifies coaching talent, including full-time faculty and staff members and community coaches, who can contribute to the program.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and professional development opportunities to assistant coaches, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative coaching environment that encourages open communication, collaboration, and teamwork, ensuring vertical alignment of the program.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to become CPR, AED, and First Aid Certified is required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel will be required and is associated mainly with planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
