Job Summary:

The Athletic Director serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school’s athletic programs while also fulfilling responsibilities as an Assistant Principal. This position requires prior head coaching experience. The selected candidate may not serve as a current coach while holding this role. The Athletic Director must possess a strong working knowledge of Georgia High School Association (GHSA) rules and regulations and ensure full compliance at all times. The Athletic Director oversees the planning, organization, supervision, and evaluation of all athletic programs. This role ensures compliance with athletic regulations, supports coaches and student-athletes, coordinates scheduling and facility usage, and promotes a positive, competitive athletic environment aligned with school and district goals. This role helps foster a safe, positive, and academically focused school environment while collaborating with the principal, staff, students, and families.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction for all athletic programs across the school or district, ensuring alignment with GHSA (Georgia High School Association) rules and district policies
  • Coordinate the scheduling of athletic events, practices, transportation, and facility use for all sports teams
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate coaches, ensuring compliance with professional standards and district hiring practices
  • Ensure compliance with all state, district, and GHSA eligibility requirements, including academic standing, physicals, and insurance documentation for student-athletes
  • Manage athletic budgets and oversee purchasing, inventory, and distribution of athletic equipment and uniforms
  • Promote sportsmanship, safety, and academic success for student-athletes through the development of character-building programs and support structures
  • Serve as the liaison between the school and GHSA, parents, booster clubs, community partners, and other schools regarding athletic matters
  • Organize and supervise athletic events, including staffing, security, ticketing, and emergency response planning
  • Maintain athletic facilities in coordination with maintenance staff, ensuring fields, courts, and equipment meet safety standards
  • Monitor and support Title IX compliance, ensuring equitable opportunities for male and female student athletes
  • Provide professional development opportunities and guidance for coaches related to ethics, safety, compliance, and student well-being
  • Coordinate communication and publicity for athletic achievements, schedules, and updates via school websites, social media, and local media outlets
  • Handle disciplinary issues involving coaches or athletes in collaboration with school administration
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and events at the district and GHSA level as a representative of the athletic program
  • Assist principal in providing instructional leadership for the school
  • Assist in maintaining a positive school climate that includes high expectations, interactive teaching, collaborative planning, clearly defined goals and objectives
  • Coordinate school assessment programs as assigned
  • Assist principal in using data to inform & improve instruction
  • Assist in supervising student activities, assemblies, and extracurricular activities
  • Coordinate transportation, custodial, school nutrition, facilities, and other support services as directed by the principal
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary
  • Maintain high level of visibility/availability to staff, students, & parents
  • Participate in parent, teacher, student conferences to discuss student behavior & academic performance
  • Requisition equipment; maintain inventories of supplies & equipment
  • Assist in conducting safety inspections & safety drills
  • Assist principal in evaluating the job performance of all staff members
  • Assist with the preparation of the instructional & student schedules as directed
  • Coordinate services for gifted students as assigned
  • Attend IEP meetings as school/LEA representative as assigned
  • Maintain all required program records
  • Facilitate communication between home, school, and appropriate community agencies
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly
  • Abide by federal, state, local and system policies and laws
  • Abide by the Code of Ethics for Educators as promulgated by GaPSC
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
  • Be physically present at worksite to perform duties Interact in a professional manner with all persons
  • Maintain confidentiality of records, reports, information
  • Work cooperatively with parents, colleagues, administrators
  • Model the correct use of language, oral and written
  • Conduct assigned duties in a timely manner
  • Participate in professional development as needed
  • Participate in staff meetings as determined by the principal
  • Complete any other duties as assigned by your building level administrator or Superintendent
