Head JV Boys Basketball Coach
Position Summary
The Head JV Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for leading the junior varsity program, developing student-athletes, and supporting the overall vision and success of the varsity program. This position focuses on player development, program alignment, and preparing athletes for varsity competition.
Key Responsibilities
Player Development
Teach fundamental basketball skills (offense, defense, conditioning)
Develop players’ basketball IQ, effort, and discipline
Prepare athletes for progression to the varsity level
Provide consistent feedback and evaluation of player growth
Program Alignment
Implement systems, terminology, and philosophy aligned with the varsity program
Collaborate with the Head Varsity Coach on player development plans
Support program-wide goals, culture, and expectations
Practice & Game Management
Plan and conduct organized, efficient practices
Coach and manage all JV games
Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes at all times
Emphasize sportsmanship and competitive excellence
Academic & Character Development
Monitor academic progress of players
Promote accountability, leadership, and character
Reinforce school and district expectations
Communication
Maintain clear communication with players, parents, and coaching staff
Assist in coordinating schedules, travel, and team logistics
Support program communication platforms (website, announcements, etc.)
Program Support
Assist with tryouts, off-season workouts, and summer programs
Help with program events, fundraisers, and community engagement
Support varsity program needs when required
Qualifications
Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred
Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals and strategy
Ability to teach and develop high school athletes
Strong communication and organizational skills
Must meet all school, district, and GHSA requirements
