Position Title: Physical Education Teacher/Coach
Reports to: Physical Education Department Chair and the Athletic Director
FLSA Status: Exempt
Employment Status: Full-time, 10-month Employee
The Walker School seeks an energetic and dedicated individual for a Physical Education teaching position for the 2021-2022 school year. The ideal candidate will be capable of teaching physical education across a variety of divisions (primary, lower, middle and upper schools). Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching upper school fitness classes or lower school PE. In addition, special consideration will be given to candidates with experience coaching girls basketball.
The ideal candidate will have an innate ability to connect with students and foster a love of physical activity, health, and wellness. The physical education teacher will have the ability to design and implement PE lesson plans with clear objectives, and collaborate with other members of the department for instruction continuity across grade levels. The Physical Education teacher will be enthusiastic about being a key member of our athletic department coaching staff and have significant experience in coaching a variety of sports.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on the Physical Education curriculum.
Presents well-planned lessons with appropriate work within and outside of the classroom.
Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each student’s performance and progress.
Develops strong student relations and nurtures the whole student by effectively communicating through active listening and appropriate responses.
Demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communication with parents pertaining to a student’s progress and needs as well as general information (through phone calls, emails, learning management system, conferences, and semester comments).
Participates actively in professional learning opportunities and demonstrates a growth, not fixed, mindset toward learning.
Coach two seasons; preference will be given to candidates willing to coach three seasons.
The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, although a Master’s Degree and three years of teaching experience is preferred. Salary is based on degrees earned and years of experience and is commensurate with other independent schools in the area.
