DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION
The City of Dalton is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Director to lead the City’s Parks and Recreation Department. The Parks and Recreation Department is poised for an exciting time of growth as the City is in the process of planning and building several major new assets including an aquatic center, a new soccer complex, and trails connecting downtown Dalton to other parks. The new Recreation Director will help shape these new projects as well as the full range of leisure services already offered to the community. The Department currently offers full leisure services to the community, including 1,400 acres of park land, Senior Center, Nob North Golf Course, 7 outdoor walking trails, 40 athletic fields, tennis center, pool, playgrounds, disc golf and other amenities.
The City’s Recreation Commission works in tandem with and provides oversight and guidance to the Recreation Director.
Highly qualified candidates should have at least five years of increasingly responsible experience in the administration of recreational programming and social and cultural programs and services, including at least three years of management and supervisory experience. Experience in park facilities planning and design, as well as developing, planning, implementing, and facilitating sports programs is preferred. Coaching experience at the high school level or beyond may be substituted for some of the experiential preferences above. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, public administration, physical education, or a related field is required.
Starting salary of approximately $100,000 annually ($8333.33 per month) DOQ
Dalton is located adjacent to Interstate 75 in the beautiful mountains of Northwest Georgia, approximately 90 miles north of Atlanta, and 20 miles south of Chattanooga, TN. The community offers plenty of tourist and historical attractions, and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. Dalton’s vibrant Downtown is filled with shops and restaurants, and is anchored by Burr Performing Arts Park, which is part of the Dalton Parks system.
The Dalton community offers plentiful jobs, and has its own independent Dalton Public Schools K-12 education system, complete with Magnet School opportunities. Dalton Public Schools offers high school students the opportunity to participate in the International Baccalaureate Program. Dalton State College offers, as an institution of the University System of Georgia, targeted bachelor’s degrees, a full range of associate’s degrees and career certificate programs, and a wide variety of public service activities.
